Postdoctoral position in Molecular Biology: Protein aggregation and cancer - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Cell and Molecular Biology is divided into seven research programs that all focus on different areas within cell and molecular biology: computational biology and bioinformatics, microbiology and immunology, molecular biology, molecular biophysics, molecular evolution, molecular systems biology and structural biology. The scientific basis of what we do is within ‘biology’, but our research overlaps with other fields such as medicine, computer science, mathematics, chemistry, engineering and physics. The postdoctoral fellow will be located in Suparna Sanyal's research group in the Molecular Biology program https://www.icm.uu.se/molecular-biology/sanyal-lab/. The group's research in based on understanding the mechanisms of protein synthesis and protein folding and to understand their implications in human diseases. Duties
The postdoctoral fellow will study how the truncated isoforms of the tumor suppressor protein p53 causes cancer. The effect of various nanoparticles, extracellular vesicles and food components in the process will be studied. The postdoc will require to establish purification methods for the p53 protein and its isoforms and to develop of an spectroscopy-based real time assay for following their folding and aggregation.

In addition, the postdoc will carry out ribosome profiling experiments in collaboration with the University of Hamburg.

Requirements
PhD degree in Molecular biology, Structural biology, Biotechnology or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in the same areas. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Additional qualifications
The candidate should have experience in purifying human proteins on a large scale using various expression systems. The candidate should also have experience in gene cloning and genetic manipulations in human cell line using CRISPR-CAS. In addition, the candidate should have experience working with spectroscopic instruments and conducting fast kinetic experiments. Knowledge of microscopy is advantageous.

The candidate must be highly motivated to conduct research and communicate the research results to the scientific community.

The postdoctoral fellow must be able to conduct research and collaborate in an international research environment.

The candidate should preferably be fluent in speaking, reading scientific literature and writing articles in English.

The capacity of making scientific illustrations using Adobe Photoshop/Illustrator and BiorenderTM will be considered as a merit.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
