Uppsala University, Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology

The Department of Cultural Anthropology and Ethnology conducts education and research on many of the complex contexts that characterize today's globalized world. At the department, teaching is offered at basic level, advanced level and postgraduate level in cultural anthropology and ethnology. In addition to the cultural anthropology A, B and C courses, several individual courses are given such as African Studies and Culture in Armed Conflict as well as Sustainable visits. The department is responsible for the bachelor's program Culture, Society and Ethnography, which is given to students in both cultural anthropology and ethnology. Information about the department and the research conducted there is available on the department's website.

The department furthermore hosts Uppsala University’s Forum for Africa Studies (http://www.afrikastudier.uu.se/en/), an interdisciplinary center with the aim of initiating, supporting, facilitating, and making visible Africa-related research within the university. Forum facilitates contacts and research information between institutions and centres within and externally outside Uppsala University. Forum runs research projects, organizes lectures and panel discussions and leads the seminar series Friday Seminars in Africa Studies. The Forum furthermore coordinates the department’s courses in the field of African Studies.
