Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 90 persons are employed at the Department and approximately 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se.

The department and the project "Should I stay or should I go? The determinants of retention of female personnel in the Swedish Armed Forces” (funded by the Swedish Research Council for Health Working Life and Welfare, FORTE), with project leader Chiara Ruffa, are now looking for 1-2 Research Assistant (s), for full-time (100%), employment of 12 months, starting in February 2024.

Duties
The below are main tasks and other administrative tasks may be included:

  • Qualitative data collection, interview transcription, qualitative data coding
  • Review of secondary literature
  • Analysis of aggregated information
  • Preparation of literature reviews
  • Editing and formatting of book and article manuscript
  • Prepare draft of scientific texts.

Requirements
The following are required for this position:

  • Master's in International Relations/Peace and Conflict Studies/Security Studies
  • Good knowledge of gender and state military organizations, the Women Peace and Security Agenda, civil-military relations, peacekeeping activities, and related theories
  • Experience of qualitative data collection and collection of news data
  • Ability to independently analyze data and to develop scientific texts on a scientific basis
  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Ability to work independently.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability, good collaborative ability, as well as accuracy.

Additional qualifications
The below is seen as merit:

  • Previous experience from the tasks included in the position
  • Languages other than English, especially the languages spoken in peacekeeping missions or among the countries of relevance for the peace keeping mission, such as French, Portuguese, Spanish, Greek, Arabic and Hebrew.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position (12 months, per person). Scope of employment: Full time/100% (per person). Starting date: 12 February, or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
