Part-time research assistant to HVC in the project: ”Svenska och svensk-judiska reaktioner på italiensk fascism och tysk nazism, 1922 – 1945”

The Hugo Valentin Center (HVC) is a multi-disciplinary center of research and teaching in the field of Holocaust and genocide studies, located within the department of history at Uppsala university. The staff at HVC consists of a mix of researchers, postdocs, associate professors of different backgrounds, as well as the director, one professor, research assistants and administrative staff. HVC offers an international working environment with dedicated and open-minded scholars conducting research and teaching students in Holocaust and Genocide studies master's program. It is an excellent place for those interested in Holocaust and Genocide studies, but also for anyone seeking to gain insight and experience of historical and social science research in general.

Description
The project investigates Swedish political and intellectual reactions to Italian fascism and German Nazism during the interwar period and World War II, but the position as a research assistant also involves working with historical sources and manuscripts on related themes.

Duties
The main tasks consists of sifting through, creating surveys of and scanning mainly Swedish language historical documents from libraries and archives, as well as copy editing and verifying references of historical research in progress, mainly written in English. 

Requirements
The position requires good cooperation skills, the ability to work in a systematic, organized and meticulous manner with digital tools, as well as reading knowledge of Swedish and excellent command of English. Documented experience of working with historical documents and of proof reading in English. 

Additional qualifications
Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities. The duties require you to be flexible, take responsibility, and have the ability to work independently.

The position may involve travel to libraries and archives in the Stockholm area, primarily the National Library of Sweden and the National Archives.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, lasting for 8 months. The scope of the employment is 40 % of full time and the Starting date is on 16, February, 2024 or as agreed. Placement: The Hugo Valentin Centre, Uppsala
