Researchers and students at the department conduct experimental studies in the field and in the lab, and we are currently seeking a temporary research engineer for the department's shared molecular lab.
Project description
In our molecular lab, researchers and students perform extractions of DNA and RNA from various organism groups. This is followed by quality and quantity control, PCR, and other molecular characterization methods before the samples are sent for sequencing.
Duties
As a substitute research engineer, you will support the research staff by handling purchases, replenishing consumables, and contributing to organizing the activities. You will assist in risk analysis and documentation, introduce new colleagues and students to our procedures, and contribute to organizing and streamlining the handling of materials and storage of samples. You will participate in and take responsibility for joint meetings for the laboratory staff and are expected to be able to organize and lead meetings. In the molecular laboratory, you will work with two experienced colleagues who will also introduce you to the tasks.
Qualifications required
A master's degree in biology and experience in independent work in a molecular lab with the methods listed in the project description.
We attach great importance to personal qualities such as the ability to organize and plan your work. The candidates must be able to express themselves very good in spoken as well as written English.
Qualifications desired
Previous experience in supervising and supporting colleagues in molecular laboratory work is highly desirable. A doctoral degree in ecology and genetics or a relevant related field is also advantageous. It is desirable if the candidate is also fluent in spoken and written Swedish.
About the employment
The employment concerns a substitute position for 6 months. The scope is 50%. Start date is 2024-01-08 or by agreement. The employment may be extended. Location: Uppsala.
