Uppsala University, Department of Government

The Department of Government at Uppsala University provides a vibrant and internationally successful research environment. With approximately 60 faculty members and 40 PhD-students, we are recognized as one of the leading political science departments in the Nordic region.

Three of the doctoral positions are open, while an additional two can be linked to projects.

One PhD position is linked to the project "What will we eat? Food as security politics in Sweden 1900-2025" which studies the role of food preparedness and food production as a security policy issue. The project is funded by the Swedish Research Council and led by Johanna Pettersson Fürst. The project includes both quantitative and qualitative methods and the PhD student will be able to shape their own project within the framework of the project. The chosen doctoral student will be part of two established research environments at the Department of Government: the Public Administration & Public Policy group and the International Politics group, and will benefit from both the resources and networks attached to these environments. The project is further described here.

One PhD position is linked to one of two projects within the field of political economy, led by Axel Cronert and Pär Nyman. The first project examines the connections between politicians and firms and relies primarily on Swedish register data. The second project investigates the politics behind, and the consequences of, tax and welfare benefit indexation from a comparative perspective. The doctoral student will be able to choose within which project they wish to write their thesis. The doctoral student will also be able to draw on the resources and network within the research group. More information about the projects can be found here and here.

Please, indicate your interest in the project related positions in your cover letter.
