at the division of Biomedical Engineering, Department of Materials Science and Engineering,
The division of Biomedical Engineering is part of the department of Materials Science and Engineering, focusing on basic mechanisms for the development and evaluation of new materials in interaction with biological systems. The division is comprised of two research groups: BioMaterial Systems (BMS) group and Enabling Microtechnologies for Biomedical and Life science Applications (EMBLA) group.
The focus of the BMS group is on development and characterization of new biomaterials for applications mainly in orthopaedics, with a specific focus on additive manufacturing (AM, or 3D-printing). There are currently approximately 20 people in the research group.
Information about the BMS group can be found here

Project description
The project revolves around developing innovative cell-instructive biomaterials to enhance immunotherapy by guiding immune cell behavior and optimizing therapeutic outcomes. This project aims to create a versatile platform for designing biomaterials that can modulate immune responses, improve targeted delivery, and enhance the efficacy of immunotherapeutic interventions.
The project will be carried out in collaboration with the department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, Uppsala University (https://www.igp.uu.se)
Work duties
Your duties will be to assist research in the above mentioned project including e. g. to design, develop, and optimize biomaterials for immunotherapy applications, focusing on immune cells engineering. Perform laboratory experiments to develop and evaluate the performance and functionality of polymeric biomaterials, including cell-material interactions, biocompatibility, and immunomodulatory effects through in vitro assays. Analyzing experimental data using relevant techniques and software, draw conclusions, and generate insights to guide biomaterial design. Ensuring that research activities comply with relevant regulatory guidelines and safety protocols.
Qualification requirements
Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Biomedical engineering or related fields.
For this position the following is required:
Documented knowledge and experience in mammalian cell culture and biological characterization of biomaterials Documented knowledge and experience of cell instructive biomaterials and applications in immunotherapy Good written and oral skills in English Documented skills from writing reports and articles
Additional qualifications
Personal qualities such as good cooperation and communication skills are very important. You must be purposeful, structured and able to work effectively both individually and in a group.
