Project Coordinator for The Excellence Center for the Human Past

The Excellence Center for the Human Past is a groundbreaking initiative that combines the three research areas of archaeology, genetics, and linguistics. Each discipline has gathered significant amounts of data and developed various methods over time. The center's researchers will work intensively on integrating these unique types of data and methods. Another central goal of the excellence center is to educate a new generation of interdisciplinary-oriented students who will have insight into the different models and analysis methods used in the various research areas, as well as the ability to work with the rapidly growing databases currently being developed. Our goal is to illuminate and understand different aspects of human development over the past 10,000 years and thereby create an overarching picture of human prehistory, including her language, culture, and genetic development in Africa, Oceania, and Eurasia.
Duties
The Project Coordinator will encourage and facilitate collaboration between the researchers and students of the excellence center, who are located at several different institutions, within and outside Uppsala University.
The coordinator will work closely with the director and management team of the excellence center, as well as independently under their own responsibility. The coordinator will be responsible for internal communication of the excellence center, planning and organizing meetings, trips, seminars, and other activities. The coordinator will create and provide materials for external communication and carry out other tasks assigned by the director and management team of the excellence center. A large part of the job responsibilities will involve administering the ongoing work of the excellence center, including budgeting, accounting, transfers, and creating reports for external funders.
Oral and written presentations, lectures, and preparing documents and reports in both English and Swedish are part of the job responsibilities. The work requires close collaboration with coordinators at the national research infrastructure Swedigarch and SCAS, Swedish Collegium for Advanced Study, as well as other support functions within Uppsala University. An additional coordinating task is to follow developments in the subject areas of the excellence center and broader societal developments that are relevant to the coordinator's work. Additional project coordinating tasks may be included in the position over time.
Requirements
Great emphasis will be placed on personal experience and competence and how it is assessed to complement and strengthen the administrative work within the excellence center. To fit the role, you are expected to be able to work independently, be thorough and service-oriented, and have a structured work approach and the ability to learn the administrative and financial systems required. You are flexible and complete your tasks on time. You have good ability to handle situations where workload is high at times. You have the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
Practical work-test may be implemented.
Additional qualifications
Good knowledge of Swedish research in archaeology, linguistics, or genetics is advantageous, as well as experience and good knowledge of Swedish and international external funding of research. Ranking of applicants will be based on an overall assessment of qualification requirements and advantageous skills
About the employment
The employment is a permanent position (probationary period is applied). Scope of employment 50 %. Starting date 1 January 2024 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
