Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 90 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. Uppsala Conflict Data Program (UCDP) at Uppsala University is the world's leading provider of data on organized violence, and the program is a unique source of information about conflicts worldwide and has been at the Department since the 1980s.

The Department of Peace and UCDP is looking for a full-time research assistant to work within UCDP for six-months, full-time/100%, starting in October 2023. 

Work assignments
The focus will be on collecting and coding information on organized violence into UCDP:s online coding interface, as well as on updating and writing new texts in the programs encyclopedia. Further assignments may be added.

Qualification requirements
The applicant must have:

  • Bachelor’s degree in peace and conflict studies
  • Good knowledge of political violence and theories of war and peace
  • Very good knowledge of UCDP and its definitions
  • Very good English in speech and writing
  • Documented experience of working independently
  • Good ability to cooperate.

Additional requirements

  • Master's degree in peace and conflict studies
  • Documented experience of working with conflict data (coding/data management).
