Duties
At Microbial Chemistry at the Department of Chemistry - Ångström, your research work will focus on using genetic engineering to develop cyanobacterial strains with new properties such as biosynthesis of renewable chemicals. Cyanobacteria are photosynthetic microorganisms and use CO2 and solar energy as raw material and energy for bioproduction. We use well-proven biochemical and molecular biological methods and in addition we develop new techniques and tools to optimize our strategies for improvement of the metabolism of cyanobacteria. The overarching goal of our research is to contribute to a sustainable societal development by using biotechnology.
As a researcher, your role will be to design and engineer new bioproduction systems from scratch. Your focus will be to accelerate the development of our experimental workflows by developing new synthetic-biology methods and implementing these within our research projects, aiming at producing isobutene and branched-chain amino acids in cyanobacteria. In your daily work you will, in addition to molecular biology and biochemistry, use microbiological techniques such as sterile work and cultivation of cells, bioinformatics for the design of biosynthesis pathways, and analytical chemistry for the identification and quantification of biochemicals.
Requirements
Applicants must have:
We will place great emphasis on personal suitability, such as good collaboration skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department and contribute to its future development.
Additional qualifications
It is desirable that you have experimental experience with CRISPR-CAS systems in cyanobacteria, computer-based modeling of bacterial metabolism and have good knowledge of photosynthetic metabolism.
Application procedure
The application should include a statement of research interest, CV, certificates of exams, degrees, published article or relevant materials, if available. Also, contact information of reference persons should be included.
