Project description
The Internet of Things (IoT) is revolutionizing domains of societal and industrial importance such as healthcare, aerospace, critical infrastructure monitoring, and process control. Most resource-constrained IoT devices are battery-powered. Such a design choice provides a quick path to working implementations, but entails crucial drawbacks, not at least from an environmental point of view. The Division of Networked Embedded Systems is looking for a postdoctorial researcher that will help to push the area of battery-free Internet of Things.

Duties

  • Design of communication protocols and system support for battery-free Internet of Things. Application areas range from microrobotics and structural health monitoring to in-body communication.
  • Implementation of the protocols and software on resource-constrained devices.
  • Evaluation of the implementation, analysis of the results and co-authoring scientific publications.
  • The work duties can also include teaching. No more than 20%.

Requirements

  • The applicant must hold a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in electrical engineering or computer science or related areas.
  • The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.
  • Experience in at least one of the following areas or related areas: backscatter communication, intermittent computing, energy harvesting and microrobotics.
  • Experience with embedded programming, for example, the Contiki operating system.
  •  Very good oral and written proficiency in English
  • We put an emphasis on your personal qualities such as good collaboration and communication skills with other researchers. You should be purposeful, structured and able to work effectively both individually and in groups
