Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - Ångström Laboratory

The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 250 employees and has a turnover of 250 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs. Within the physical chemistry program, we conduct basic and targeted research mainly in photochemistry and chemical dynamics, surface and colloid chemistry, laser spectroscopy and molecular and mesoscopic systems for solar energy conversion. Duties
The work includes postgraduate training in physical chemistry to qualify as a doctor. The specific research project is aimed at mechanistic studies of molecular systems, including time-resolved and multi-dimensional laser spectroscopy, specifically 2D-IR spectroscopy. Teaching at basic and advanced level, and other institutional service, can be included in a maximum of 20%.

Requirements
To meet the entry requirements, you must:

  • Have been awarded a second-cycle qualification with direction Physical chemistry or similar,
  • Have very good oral and written proficiency in English.
  • Be strongly motivated for the task and have the ability to work both independently and as part of a group.

Consideration will also be given to good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen ongoing research within the department, and how they stand to contribute to its future development.

Additional qualifications
Experience in advanced laser spectroscopy is an advantage.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 7. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date September 1st 2023 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
