The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: cancer precision medicine, cancer immunotherapy, genomics and neurobiology, molecular tools and functional genomics, neuro-oncology and neurodegeneration and vascular biology. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 500 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 345 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 700 affiliated people. Feel free to read more about the department's activities here: www.igp.uu.se
About us
I have an opening for a research assistant with experience in epigenetics. You will be working with Professor Ingrid Glimelius within the field of hematological malignancies. We are approximately 10 people (doctoral students, postdocs, assistant professors, and senior researchers) with different backgrounds but common research interests, namely the study of different cancer forms using Swedish national registers, clinical data, and the novel possibility of added biological data. Many of us are working as physicians at the Department of Oncology, Uppsala Akademiska Hospital. Further information on the activity of the research group can be found at Ingrid Glimelius - Immunology, Genetics and Pathology, IGP - Uppsala University, Sweden (uu.se). We are in an expansive phase and are therefore looking for coworkers that will follow us in this progress. We work in a field where results quickly can be implemented into clinical care. You will also be working in Assistant Professor X Chen's lab with epigenetic laboratory work and computer calculations based on tumor material. You will collaborate with persons at the Pathology and Clinical Genetics department to obtain the correct tumor samples for testing. You will have the possibility to work at EpiHubben Uppsala University. EpiHubben is a dynamic and friendly research working environment with great opportunities for interaction. Here researchers within many fields gather and integrate medical research questions integrating epidemiological, clinical, and biological data.
Work description
You will work with identifying novel prognostic and predicting markers by studying whole exome sequencing from lymphoma tumors, focusing on epigenetic modeling and laboratory work. The project will address the following topics: 1) Changes in epigenetic genetic lesions over consecutive tumor biopsies in lymphoma patients, 2) Prognostic implication of epigenetic data in lymphoma 3) Identification of which epigenetic characteristics that best predicts outcome and late effects in lymphoma patients, using a combination of clinical, biological and register-based data.
Requirements:
- Experience in Next-Generation Sequencing library preparation.
- Experience with epigenetic methods such as ATAC-seq, and CUT&Tag and familiarity with single-cell technologies.
- Knowledge and experience in handling frozen and FFPE samples.
- Skills in data management, statistical analysis, and modeling (SAS, STATA and/or R, Python, Linux) are a merit
- Experience in analysis of epigenetic genetic data generated by next-generation sequencing, for example, whole exome panel diagnostics, i.e., programming skills
- Excellent scientific writing ability and strong oral communication skills in English
- Detail-oriented, professional and well-organized
- Knowledge/experience of the following fields is an advantage: medicine, in particular oncology, hematology, and immunology
- Molecular biology laboratory experience.
- Personal dedication to research
Application
The application should contain an application letter with the motivation to join the group, curriculum vitae, and a list of scientific publications of the candidate. The name and contact details of the two references should also be included.
