The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro biology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 500 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 345 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 700 affiliated people. Duties
The doctoral project, which is a part of a larger ongoing project in the group, aims to establish the chemical synthesis of novel functional moieties that can support the ligation of nucleic acids with high fidelity. Applications include, but are not limited to, single-molecule detection of RNA, DNA, proteins, peptides, lipids, and glycans.
As part of this role, the job duties include conducting laboratory work focused on the synthesis of photolabile functional groups and their applications in molecular biology. Additionally, the successful candidate will be responsible for writing research articles on their findings and publishing them in scientific journals. They will also be expected to present their research at relevant international conferences within their field. Finally, this position involves participating in teaching and other institutional work.
Requirements
We are seeking a highly qualified candidate for a synthetic chemistry position. The ideal candidate should have a higher degree in chemistry, with experience in synthetic chemistry working under inert, air-free, and moisture-free conditions. Additionally, proficiency in using various NMR techniques such as COSY, NOESY, TOCSY, HMBC, HSQC, DEPT, No-D, PRESAT, WATERGATE, and qNMR is required.
Additional qualifications
Experience with programming, macOS, Linux or Unix.
