The position is located at the Limnology programme in Uppsala and the Erken field station outside of Norrtälje. Travel to other SITES AquaNet field stations (https://www.fieldsites.se/en-GB/sites-thematic-programs/sites-aquanet-32634394) can also be part of the position.

Duties
(1) Analysis of bacterial communities using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing. The tasks include DNA extractions, PCR, purification of PCR products, preparation of libraries for sequencing and other related tasks. Analysis of bacterial abundance using flow cytometry.
(2) Analysis of samples in the certified laboratory of the field station, in particular analyses of water chemistry of freshwater and brackish samples, including routine controls and calibrations
(3) Sampling and measurements in lakes
(4) Support the implementation of lake mesocosm experiments. Other tasks in the lab and administrative tasks are also included in the position. The research assistant will work together with others as well as independently.

Qualifications required
University examen in biology in biology or related field. Documented knowledge in limnology and microbial ecology. Experience in analyzes of bacterial communities using 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing, including PCR, purification of PCR products, preparation of libraries for sequencing and other related tasks. Experience with flow cytometry to measure bacterial abundance. Previous experience of sampling lakes, water chemistry analyzes in a certified laboratory relevant for the position, and experimental work. The candidate needs to be able to work accurately and should be organized, flexible, service-minded and able to work independently and as part of a team. You must have a very good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in English because we work in an international environment. A driving licence is required.
