Duties
The department now announces two fully funded PhD positions within a theme of the applicant’s choice. Successful candidates will pursue their doctoral studies full-time in Uppsala and are expected to participate actively in weekly seminars and workshops, etc. at the department and within the research programme. The position is a 4-year full-time employment which qualifies for all Swedish social benefits, such as paid parental leave. The position might also entail teaching and other assignments up to 20% of the full-time position (extending the position proportionally).

Requirements
To be eligible the applicant must have a Master’s Degree in the humanities relevant to research in history. We encourage applicants from all countries to apply. Seminars are in both Swedish and English and the dissertation can be written in either language.  Note, however, that the PhD programme is bilingual and that basic knowledge in both Swedish and English is required.

Please note that admission to a PhD programme at Uppsala University is highly competitive and that a completed Master’s Degree at the time of application is a prerequisite.

The history departments at Uppsala University and Stockholm University collaborate closely, and the PhD programme is to a high degree jointly taught. Consequently, the admittance process is coordinated and representatives of both universities (and one external member) take part in the selection process. An applicant who wants to be considered for positions at both universities must, however, submit an application to both universities. Applicants are encouraged to avail themselves of the information concerning the PhD programme on the departments’ websites.
