Researcher within the philosophy and ethics of awareness - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Center for Research and Bioethics (CRB) is an interdisciplinary center located at the Department of Public Health and Care Sciences at Uppsala University. The center's researchers have degrees in e.g. medicine and care, ethics, philosophy and law and works to investigate ethical, philosophical and legal aspects of research, clinical and academic activities. The research group is now looking for a researcher in the field of the philosophy and ethics of awareness.

Duties
The work primarily involves conducting research independently and together with others to examine the philosophy and ethics of awareness. Specifically, conceptual analysis is included: drawing on the conceptual reflection on awareness, including its definition and the identification of indicators that allow one to attribute awareness either to biological organisms or artificial systems. Furthermore, the connection between awareness in biological organisms and its possible replication in artificial systems is explored. But normative analysis is also included: to contribute to identifying and assessing societal and ethical implications and effects of aware artificial systems.In addition to writing research articles and reports, the position also involves some participation in CRB's teaching and to some extent administrative tasks. The recipient of the position is also expected to actively seek external research funding, by himself and together with others.

Requirements
The position requires a PhD in moral philosophy with a focus on new technology, artificial intelligence and robotics. Good knowledge of English is required as well as good collaboration skills and previous experience of interdisciplinary collaborations.

Additional qualifications
Particularly meritorious is documented experience of obtaining external research funds by yourself or together with others, in particular funds for research of the kind that the position refers to. Previous research in the same research area, for example through relevant publications in scientific journals, is also particularly meritorious. So is previous experience of both conceptual analysis and ethical analysis of artificial intelligence, awareness, and neuroethics.

About the employment
The employment is a permanent position (probationary period may be applied). Scope of employment 50 %. Starting date 1 of April or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
