We invite applications for a PhD position in Gender Studies within the Graduate School The Future of Democracy: Cultural Analyses of Illiberal Populism in Times of Crises (FUDEM) at the Centre for Gender Research at Uppsala University.
The Centre for Gender Research was established in 2003 as an interdisciplinary unit within Uppsala University with a focus on gender research. We are placed within the Disciplinary Domain of the Humanities and Social Sciences, Faculty of Arts. Education and research include various perspectives on sex and gender, and other dimensions of power. Close to forty researchers are employed at, or affiliated with, the Centre, and research spans many research fields and over 20 disciplines. The graduate school The Future of Democracy: Cultural Analyses of Illiberal Populism in Times of Crises (FUDEM) is a multidisciplinary environment funded by the Swedish Research Council, within which junior and senior researchers in Cultural Studies, Ethnology, Gender Studies and Musicology are researching the varied shapes and expressions that illiberal populism might take in times of multiple crises, as well as different forms of resistance against illiberalism and populism. The graduate school is a collaboration between six Swedish universities: University of Gothenburg, Linnaeus University, Linköping University, Lund University, Södertörn University and Uppsala University. Duties
The PhD program in Gender Studies spans four years of full-time work, and is financed with a salaried position as doctoral student. The PhD candidate is expected to work full-time and contribute actively to both the Centre’s and the program’s activities and milieu and to the FUDEM graduate school’s activities and milieu. Additional service at the Centre for Gender Research, in administration and/or education, may apply (max 20%) which then prolongs the duration of the PhD program with the equivalent amount of time.

For special eligibility the applicant must have a Gender Studies education at basic level and/or advanced level. Those who acquired their education within or outside the country in other subjects with a Gender Studies orientation/relevance also have special eligibility.
Additional qualifications
To be eligible for the PhD position in Gender Studies within the FUDEM graduate school, the planned project needs to be clearly related to issues concerning illiberalism, populism and the crises of democracy from a gender studies perspective.
