Uppsala University, Department of Sociology

The Department of Sociology at Uppsala University is the oldest of its kind in Sweden. Its main subjects are Sociology and Social psychology. Undergraduate education is also offered in Sociology with Orientation towards Work, Organization and Human Resource Management, and Social work. Research questions in areas like work, children, economics, gender, disability, self conceptualisations, networking, fashion, organization, urban life, sexuality, technology or aging are studied at the department.

Duties
Duties as a research assistant involve assisting in a current research project in sociology. You will for example:

  • Work with interview and observation material, as well as with documents (judgments, protocols, etc.)
  • Code data in Swedish and English
  • Perform easier analysis (categorize and organize coded material)
  • Collect and compile literature (previous research)
  • Participate in planning and preparation of workshop/conference

Requirements

  • Completed Master's degree in Sociology.
  • Previous experience of working as a research assistant within research projects in sociology.
  • Code qualitative data and collect and compile research summaries.
  • Work in different computer systems, for example Nvivo.
  • Previous experience, as well as theoretical knowledge of managing and processing qualitative data analysis.
  • Knowledge of the Swedish legal system.
  • Good ability to work independently and solve problems.
  • Good ability to collaborate with other researchers.

As all coding of documentation and other sources is in Swedish and English, it is a requirement that you can express yourself very well in Swedish and English in speech and writing.

We will place great emphasis on personal suitability. Consideration will also be given to i.e. good collaborative skills, drive and independence, and how the applicant’s experience and skills complement and strengthen the administrative work within the unit/department, as well as contribute to its future development.

Additional qualifications

  • Previous experience of coding data in the data processing program Nvivo, analyzing data and working with international research material.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 3 months. Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 2023-03-01 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
