The graduate school Gender, Humanities, and Digital Cultures is a collaboration between Uppsala University, Stockholm University and Södertörn University that will offer PhD training to a group of nine PhD students over the period 2023-2027, funded by The Swedish Research Council and the three universities. More information about the graduate school here. The aim of the graduate school is to strengthen the integration of gender studies and digital humanities, and to contribute to knowledge about the role of gender in the continued co-constitution of digital technologies and culture (in its aesthetic/media sense). The main objective of the graduate school is therefore to explore how gender impacts digital transformations in the humanities.

Duties
The Centre for Gender Research opens three positions as PhD candidate in Gender Studies. The PhD programme spans four years of full time work, and is financed with a salaried position as doctoral student. The PhD candidate is expected to work full time in the programme, and contribute actively to the Centre’s and the program’s activities and milieu, as well as to the activities and milieu of GENHDI. Additional service at the Centre for Gender Research, in administration and/or education, may apply (max 20%), which then prolongs the duration of the PhD programme with the corresponding time. The orientation of the thesis project pursued by the PhD candidate must be situated within the field of Gender, humanities and digital cultures.

Possible orientations for the PhD thesis project are:

  • Digital media genres (museums/exhibitions; immersive media; games; social media; born digital productions)
  • Digitality in cultural/aesthetic experiences and production;
  • Digital media consumption/production;
  • Digital research methods

All of which need to be related to gender and diversity.

For special eligibility, the applicant must have a degree in Gender Studies at the Bachelor or Master level. Eligibility also applies to those who have acquired the equivalent of such education in Sweden or abroad. Those also have special eligibility who have acquired an equivalent education in other subjects with a gender studies orientation. The applicant must have documented good language proficiency in spoken and written English.

Desirable qualifications further consist of: previous documented experience of research relevant to the position.
