Department of Chemistry – BMC conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. More than 100 people work at the department. New employees and students are recruited from all over the world and English is the main working language. The department is located at the Biomedical Centre in Uppsala, which facilitates collaborations with research groups in biology, pharmacy, medicine and SciLifeLab and gives access to advanced infrastructure for experimental and theoretical studies. You can find more information about us here.

A postdoc position is available in the laboratories of Professor Jan Streuff at the Department of Chemistry - BMC. The Streuff Group is working in the fields of homogeneous catalysis and organic synthesis. It is planned that the successful candidate will be working in the development of new transition metal catalyzed reductive transformations. There will be the possibility to work on other projects as well. Details will be disclosed at a later stage and more information about the group is available under www.streuff.weebly.com

Duties
You will be carrying out research in organic chemistry and transition metal catalysis in the laboratory. You are expected to actively engage in all aspects of the research and to support the group with your experience, especially the more junior group members. The usual tasks further comprise the synthesis of precursors and catalysts, reaction optimization and application, analysis and interpretation of results, characterization of new products, precise research documentation, as well as results reporting and forward planning.

Requirements
PhD degree in organic chemistry, or organometallic chemistry or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in the above listed subjects. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

A broad experience in organic synthesis and/or organometallic chemistry, supported by publications in top-tier journals is a requirement. Proficiency in carrying out reactions under inert gas atmosphere using Schlenk technique is expected. The group language is English and, hence, strong English skills (spoken and written) are a requirement.

Additional qualifications
Experience in organometallic chemistry and catalysis will be advantageous. The ability to drive projects forward independently, critical thinking, and a strong team spirit will be seen as strong merits.
