Currently approx. 85 persons are employed at the Department and approximately 1000 students are enrolled every academic year. The Alva Myrdal Centre at the Department of Peace and Conflict Research in Uppsala, seeks to hire a researcher to work within its ten-member Working Group 2, on the use of sanctions to further nuclear disarmament.

Duties
The position includes independent research on historical aspects of this topic, administratively coordinating the international researcher team of the working group and editing a volume on new aspects of sanctions and nuclear disarmament, based on the meetings of the working group and the annual conferences of the Alva Myrdal Centre. Teaching (in English), will also be included (max 20% of the employment scope). 

Requirements

  • At the time of application, the successful candidate should have a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies or in a related field
  • Documented experience working with cases studies and comparative analysis, notably in the field of international sanctions
  • Documented ability to administer a team and to work cooperatively
  • Advanced proficiency in written English.

Additional qualifications

  • Academic publications in peace and conflict research
  • Familiarity with modern international affairs as well as theories of sanctions and/or international relations in general
  • Demonstrated experience in editing a research-based volume in English, including working with an international publisher.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position for 12 months. Scope of employment 65 %. Starting date 2 January 2023, or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
