Uppsala University, Department of Chemistry - BMC

Department of Chemistry – BMC conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. More than 100 people work at the department. New employees and students are recruited from all over the world and English is the main working language. The department is located at the Biomedical Centre in Uppsala, which facilitates collaborations with research groups in biology, pharmacy, medicine and SciLifeLab and gives access to advanced infrastructure for experimental and theoretical studies. Duties
The work will involve the design, production and characterization of recombinant proteins for various medical or therapeutic purposes. Because the proteins are uncharacterized, have complex structures and properties, and require post-translational modifications, new and creative solutions for production and handling are needed. Methods for production and purification suitable for industrial scales must be developed and used. The work requires extensive characterization of proteins and other biomolecules using advanced biochemical, analytical and biophysical methods. As it is contract research, it will require extensive documentation suitable for securing international ownership and patenting. There is also a goal that the results should eventually be published.

Requirements
To qualify for an employment as a researcher you must have a PhD degree or a foreign degree equivalent to a PhD degree in biochemistry.

You must have documented experience in protein production and purification, analytical protein chemistry and enzymatic studies.

We attach great importance to personal qualities such as to be strongly motivated to carry out the work in the projects and contribute to product development by coming up with new creative ideas. This project requires you to be able to work independently, while also having excellent collaboration skills, as the project requires you to be able to collaborate with researchers from industry and other universities, within and outside of Sweden. You must be organized and systematic in your lab work, as well as reliable and disciplined, so that laboratories and instruments are kept clean and in good condition. Candidates must be able to express themselves very well in spoken as well as written English.

Additional qualifications
Experience in both industrial and academic research in biotechnology, therapeutic or medical device products is advantageous, as is work with mammalian cell cultures, LC/MS or HPLC, and experience in project management.
