The Department of Chemistry - Ångström conducts research and education in the chemistry field. The department has more than 250 employees and has a turnover of 290 million SEK. At the department's six programs, we conduct very successful research of a high international standard. We have a large number of externally funded research projects, often with international cooperation and we see continued good growth in our subject area. The department has education assignments in engineering programs and master's programs. More information is available on our website.

Project description: The research project aims at developing novel methods for relithiation of LFP from spent Li ion batteries (LIBs). Through this project, we expect to achieve regeneration of spent LFP in mild conditions (e.g., at a relatively low temperature, under a normal pressure, in an aqueous solution, etc). The selection of suitable reductants is the key to the process. The regenerated LFP will be analyzed through materials characterization and evaluated through battery performance tests.
Work duties: The applicant will work in an interdisciplinary project that involves inorganic synthesis, materials characterization, electrochemical analysis, and battery test. The primary role of the PhD student in the project will realize the relithiation of spent LFP by using nature-abundant reductants, and study the relationship between the structure and performance of the regenerated LFP. The work will be performed by the PhD student in collaboration with other partner laboratories at Uppsala University and abroad.
The main duties of doctoral students are to devote themselves to their research studies which includes participating in research projects mentioned above and third cycle courses. The work duties can also include teaching and other departmental duties (no more than 20%).
Requirements
Consideration will also be given to good organisational discipline, collaborative skills, drive and willingness to take initiative, enthusiasm and independence. Finally, the applicant, through his or her experience and skills, is deemed to have the abilities necessary for successfully completing the third cycle programme.
Additional qualifications
Rules governing PhD students are set out in the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5, §§ 1-7 and in Uppsala University's rules and guidelines.
