Two part time research assistants for the DRONES project - Hiring in process/Finished, not possible to apply

The Department of Earth Sciences at Uppsala University is Sweden´s largest and most versatile department of its kind with approximately 250 employees. Our activities are interdisciplinary and combine natural science and technology with social science. We have research programs in air, water and landscape science (LUVAL); geophysics; natural resources and sustainable development; (NRHU); petrology, mineralogy and tectonics (MPT); paleobiology, and wind energy. Two part time research assistants are needed for the DRONES research project, which aims to provide better forecasts of inflow to hydro power plant dams through improved estimation of snow volumes using drone-borne observations.

Duties
As a research assistant, you will work with processing, visualization, validation and analysis of collected airborne LIDAR and photogrammetric data to create spatial digital elevation models. The elevation models are then used to estimate snow depth in various catchment areas included in the study. Planning and implementation of field work in collaboration with a drone pilot for collection of new data may be included. Other tasks may also be included according to agreement.

Requirements
You should be at the end of your university Earth Sciences studies or within two years of your degree. You need good experience with computers and data processing and handling of spatial data in GIS software. Good language skills in spoken and written English. You need to have the ability to take initiative and to be able to solve problems in a constructive way, as well as being able to independently run and complete tasks within given time frames.

Additional qualifications
Experience of photogrammetric analysis is advantageous. Driver"s license to be able to assist during possible field work is desirable.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 7 months. Scope of employment is two (2) positions of 50%. Starting date 2022-12-01 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala
