Researcher position: Psychological and technical development for a remotely delivered psychological intervention after trauma. The researcher will join the Holmes research group at the Department of Psychology, Uppsala University (Emotion and Mental Imagery Lab). We use experimental psychopathology to inform psychological treatment development, with a focus on the area of mental imagery and the clinical field of psychological trauma.

Duties: This is a 100% post as a cognitive neuroscience researcher in busy and dynamic team currently working on three ongoing projects (international and national) where a remotely delivered psychological intervention for intrusive memories is being developed and tested, as well as more basic lab work for the underpinning science. The novel intervention is informed by basic science and uses a simple cognitive task including a computer game. You will be a part of a team including clinical research psychologists with expertise in psychological trauma as well as cognitive scientists and collaborators across disciplines, from Mathematics to Computer Science.  Your main role involves supporting the PI (Prof Emily Holmes) and team in the day-today running of the projects, particularly in ways that both help us link between them operationally, and tackles cross-cutting issues that emerge scientifically.  This will range from coordinating team activities and meetings, to study documentation, data bases, and the write up of a series of academic papers.

This position is likely to involve (subject to ongoing discussion with the PI and wider team):

  • Joining active and ongoing team projects including three clinical projects and lab studies
  • Collaboration with trauma experts and cognitive scientists, involving both local and international colleagues
  • Coordinating lab meetings between the 3 ongoing projects
  • Working on study documentation
  • Working on updating research databases
  • Statistical input
  • Preparing material and data in according with open-science practice
  • Working with students and other team members and collaborators, with supervisory responsibility for junior staff as delegated by the project leader (Holmes)
  • Drafting scientific reports papers and applications as required
  • Working both independently and as part of a team, with a focus on keeping deadlines, and together with international collaborators
  • Being a part of weekly project meetings on dedicated days at Uppsala University, and being flexible with contact per e-mail and video conferences on other times, such as evenings according to the needs of the project and collaborating time zones
  • Travelling nationally and internationally to meet project group members or to present the project when required
  • Using a digital trial platform and managing contact with the technical developers
  • Documenting training and methods aspects within the developing study
  • Ethics applications

Qualifications and skills:  PhD in Cognitive Neuroscience. Proven track-record of (i) research in the area of mental imagery, memory and intrusive memories after trauma (ii) project management skills, showcasing the ability to work at speed and be flexible according the needs of the ongoing projects, (ii) experience of open-science practices (pre-registration, open-data procedures), (iii) demonstrated experience of report writing and presenting research results (iv) experience of technological tools such as Gorilla, Qualtrics and Prolific.

The applicant should have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, along with excellent knowledge of English in both speaking and writing as a large part of the research groups work and communication with external partners will be in English.
