The Department of English contains five areas of specialization in both teaching and research: English Linguistics, English Literature, American Literature, Irish language and Culture and SINAS, the Swedish Institute for North American Studies. Research at the department is conducted within all these areas. The department has around 1500 students per year and offers approximately 60 different courses. We are hiring one junior lecturer in English for a temporary half-time employment for one year. The duties will be carried out at Campus Gotland.

Position: Junior lecturer, permanent position, 50%
Duties: The main duties of the position include teaching and examination of undergraduate courses in English within in the educational program for teacher training students, as well as various English proficiency courses, including some online teaching. Teaching duties include some course responsibility, course coordination, administration and development. Duties also include keeping up-to-date on developments within the academic field and society in general that have an impact on the teaching profession. Ten per cent of the half-time position is reserved for research and/or professional development. Regular attendance at the workplace at Campus Gotland is required for active participation in the Department’s work.
Eligibility: Applicants are eligible for employment as Junior Lecturer if they hold a university degree in English or have equivalent academic competence relevant to the duties of the position. The applicant will have completed training in tertiary-level teaching or acquired equivalent knowledge in other ways and must be able to demonstrate excellence in teaching, as well as the personal capabilities required to carry out the duties of the position well. Excellence in teaching includes planning and evaluation of teaching, as well as the ability to conduct teaching and examination. Pedagogical excellence should be documented in such a way that its quality can be assessed.
The ability to teach and give feedback on texts in English is a requirement, as is experience of teaching English as a foreign/second language. Since the position entails communication and cooperation with other faculties and campuses, fluency in Swedish is required.
Assessment criteria: In the ranking of eligible applicants, pedagogical excellence will be accorded extra weight, as will documented experience of (i) planning, conducting and evaluating English teaching and (ii) teaching English in primary or secondary school. A doctoral degree in English and/or a teacher degree that includes English as a major subject will be considered advantageous, as will well-documented expertise in subject-specific didactics. Teaching experience from primary and secondary education and a teaching degree in English is of special importance, as is a well-documented ability to collaborate with others.
In appointing a person to this academic post, priority will be given to the applicant who, after a holistic assessment of relevant competence and skills, is judged, alongside documented qualifications, to possess the greatest potential for performing and further developing the relevant duties and contributing to the positive development of the working environment as an active and physically-present employee.
