Department of Game Design is located at Uppsala University’s Campus Gotland, an international campus in central Visby, a World Heritage city. Here, the best of both worlds may be found: the broad range and influence in education and research of a full-scale university, along with the unique study environment of a small-scale campus.
The Department of Game Design is part of the Faculty of History and Philosophy at Uppsala University. Its teaching and research alike are highly advanced. The Department has some 430 full-time students, roughly half of whom are from outside Sweden, and about 40 employees in various job categories. It offers teaching in game design and development at basic and advanced level, with graphics, project management and programming as minor options. All education takes place in English.
To strengthen the Department's education in Game Design, we are now looking for a temporary substitute lecturer in Graphic and animation at the Department of Game Design at Campus Gotland, Uppsala University.

Duties
The position includes teaching and tasks relating to course coordination, examination, development and administration. Teaching will take place in campus courses, within free-standing courses as well as courses within the programmes of Game Design. The courses centre on 3D character modelling, texturing and animation.
Mainly work in the Course 5SD517 Expression with 3D Graphics Characters 1
Active participation in the Department’s work requires regular, physical presence at the workplace.
Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for employment as a lecturer, a person must at least hold a Bachelor’s degree with relevant subject specialization; have demonstrated teaching expertise; possess solid knowledge of graphic production for game development; and have completed ten weeks’ academic teacher training of at least ten weeks’ duration, or corresponding knowledge what the Department considers to be equivalent competence. If special reasons apply, the appointee may attend the academic teacher training during the time of employment. An ability to teach in English is a requirement.
The applicant must have the personal characteristics required to fulfil the requirements of the position well: an ability to work well with others, take the initiative and assume responsibility for personal tasks, and to work in a structured way by planning, organizing and prioritizing work efficiently and adhering to established time limits. Experience of project-oriented work and a good ability to express oneself well in speech and writing, in English.
Desirable and/or meritorious qualifications
Documented experience of teaching in 3D character modelling and 3D character animation in the field of game design and/or game development is a meritorious qualification. The applicant should be familiar with, and able to teach, a minimum of 3D character modelling and 3D character animation using Autodesk Maya.
Ability to teach the entire 3D character pipeline from character modelling, UVs, texturing, rigging to animation and engine implementation, as well as familiarity with Adobe Substance 3D painter, is highly meritorious. Experience of personal artistic activity and/or personal activity in the game sector and knowledge of requirements for implementation and production of graphics in a game development context are also meritorious.
About the employment
The employment is a temporary position 4 months Starting date 2 January 2023. Scope of employment 75 %. Placement: Visby.
