At the Section of Radiology, Department of Surgical Sciences, Uppsala University, education and research is pursued within the topic Radiology. The main emphasis is on diagnostics and intervention with radiological methods. The topic includes clinical as well as experimental studies. In these studies x-ray radiation, magnetic resonance (MR) imaging, positron emission tomography (PET) and ultrasound is used.
One project within the division concerns studies of diabetes by use of advanced image analysis techniques that integrates imaging and non-imaging data including clinical and genetic information. The project is entitled: Large-scale Imaging Studies of Associations and Causality of Body Composition in Relation to Type 2 Diabetes and will be performed within the research school at Uppsala Diabetes Center, UDC (https://www.uu.se/forskning/udc/) and include imaging and study data from UK Biobank (https://www.ukbiobank.ac.uk/), and SCAPIS (www.scapis.org) and a sister study to the SCAPIS-study referred to as the IGT-microbiota study.

You will get to work with methods previously developed and applied in the research group -Imiomics, deep learning, and so-called cohort salience mapping. In this project, you will also be a part of extending these methods to find causal relations between the imaging data and T2D.
By this, you will help to answer the research plan's main research questions:
