Research assistant  The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 85 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Projects and duties
The department and the below projects, are now looking to recruit a research assistant for a full-time employment for 8 months, starting in June 2022.

The positions is funded through the following projects; 

- Preventing and Addressing Violent Extremism through Community Resilience in the Balkans and MENA/PAVE (project leader Isak Svensson)

- Negotiating Nuclear Disarmament (working group within the Alva Myrdal Centre - project leader Isak Svensson)

-  Civil Peace: Exploring the Diversity of Civil Society Involvement in Peacemaking (project leader Desirée Nilsson).

The research assistant will;

  • primarily help out with the practicalities around a survey in Iraq studying the effects of radio peace messaging on inter-ethnic attitudes. The RA will assist in the preparation, implementation and analysis phase of this study, based in Uppsala but in close collaboration with our partners in Iraq

  • help to coordinate the international working-group on nuclear negotiations, including arranging for meetings and preparing research overviews

  • assist in coding, management and analysis of data on negotiations and civil society engagement in armed conflicts.


Requirements:

  • For a deep understanding of conflict processes and violence dynamics, and to be able to work with advanced statistical methods, the position demands a master degree in peace and conflict studies, political science or international relations. Alternatively the applicant is currently finalising master studies within one of the subject areas (final semester)

  • Excellent skills in English (both speech and writing)  Skills in Excel, Stata or R (or equivalent).


Additional qualifications;

  • previous experience as a research assistant and/or experience with data collection (especially on third-party intervention or negotiations). In addition, previous administrative experience.
