Uppsala University, Department of Information Technology

UPPMAX (Uppsala Multidisciplinary Center for Advanced Computational Science, is a part of SNIC (Swedish National Infrastructure for Computing,) tasked with providing large-scale resources for computation and data storage for Swedish scientists, as well as maintaining local large-scale resources for researchers at Uppsala University. Efficient utilisation of these resources requires advanced user support. UPPMAX currently has about 1500 active users from a wide variety of scientific disciplines which have a need for large-scale compute and storage of big data, such as e.g. bioinformatics and materials science, but also emerging fields such as digital humanities. UPPMAX employs around 20 system- and application experts.

Application experts at UPPMAX are a varied group of about ten people who support researchers in their use of large-scale compute and storage resources at SNIC, and work in coordination with the SNIC national advanced user support.

The Centre for Digital Humanities at Uppsala University (CDHU) leads and curates the digital transformation of the humanities and social sciences at the university. CDHU's assignments are threefold: research-initiating activities (seminars, workshops and major events) as well as support for individual projects and applications; pedagogy and knowledge exchange, including initiating, developing and supporting education in Digital Humanities from master's level to doctoral researchers; and the development of a technical infrastructure to support research in the field of DH.
