Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 85 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. The department and the Minerva Research Initiative funded project Displace, return, and reconstruct: Population movement and resilience to instability (project leader Jonathan Hall), is now looking for a research assistant, for a full-time employment for 5 months, starting 1 June 2022.

Duties
The research assistant will assist the project leader and will participate in all aspects of the research process, including collecting and reviewing literature, data analysis and the write-up of research papers; participation at international conferences; and supporting the writing of applications for funding.

Requirements
Master’s degree within peace and conflict or area that the project leader finds equivalent. The assistant will assistant the project leader in their work on the drivers of social cooperation in refugee communities. The assistant should thus have a strong knowledge of both refugee issues and peace and conflict research as evidenced through their education and work experience.

Additional qualifications
The project entails the use of methods from the fields of both political science and economics. A background in both fields would thus be highly valued. A strong ability to contribute to the writing of applications for research funding would further be highly valued. Practical experience working with refugees – especially if that work involved efforts to reduce violent extremism or promote intergroup cooperation –would also be of particular value. Previous experience as a research assistant is also a merit.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 5 months. Scope of employment; 100%. Starting date, 1 June 2022. Placement: Uppsala.
