Department of Chemistry – BMC conducts research and education in analytical chemistry, biochemistry and organic chemistry. More than 100 people work at the department. New employees and students are recruited from all over the world and English is the main working language. The department is located at the Biomedical Centre in Uppsala, which facilitates collaborations with research groups in biology, pharmacy, medicine and SciLifeLab and gives access to advanced infrastructure for experimental and theoretical studies. You can find more information about us here.

The position is part of a large ERC funded project for developing and using single-cell multi-omics, including secretomics, metabolomics, lipidomics and transcriptomics. The project will be conducted in the Lanekoff group within the research program for analytical chemistry [link to https://kemi.uu.se/bmc/research/analytical-chemistry/research-groups/lanekoff-group]. The group’s research is focused on analytical developments for metabolomics and lipidomics of biological samples using mass spectrometry for imaging, direct infusion, isomeric characterization and surface sampling capillary electrophoresis.

Duties
The successful candidate will work on analytical developments to generate a platform for single-cell mass spectrometric analysis.  The developed platform will then be applied to decipher metabolic deficiencies that result in type 2 diabetes and the work will include data handling strategies to pinpoint altered metabolic pathways. As a postdoctoral researcher you will also use strategies for data handling and statistics and collaborate with PhD students, students and researchers interdisciplinary.

Requirements
PhD degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, biotechnology, microfluidics or similar, or a foreign degree equivalent to such PhD degree.  The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Great emphasis will be placed on personal qualities such as good collaborative skills, motivation and independence, as well as how the applicant through his/her experience and competence is judged to have the abilities necessary to develop within the project.

Additional qualifications
Experience with mass spectrometry is meriting, especially high-resolution mass spectrometric analysis of small molecules, such as lipids and metabolites, using electrospray ionization. Experiences of cell handling, microfluidics, data handling, statistics, programming, pathway analysis and scientific writing is meriting. Scores from IELTS or TOEFL are desirable but not mandatory at the time of applying.

The application
The application must include your CV with a full publication list and a personal letter where you motivate why you will advance the field of single-cell analysis using mass spectrometry. Please submit using the provided link.
