The Department of Informatics and Media has a broad research profile, focusing on current research topics and societal challenges, including digitalization, interaction design, and media and communication. The Department of Informatics and Media offers Bachelor and Master programmes and courses within the Faculty of Social Sciences. The department has a turnover of approx. 85 million SEK and about 90 employees.

Information systems research at Uppsala University is devoted to developing knowledge about digitization and its requirements, importance, value, and consequences, in individual, organizational, and societal contexts. The subject includes studies and development of digital practices, digital resources, artifacts and systems, including control, design, implementation, and use.

Duties: The position relates to teaching and research in information systems. Included within the area of teaching is planning and execution of courses, including course responsibility, course administration, course development, and supervision at undergraduate and advanced level. The focus of the position is on research and teaching related to enterprise systems development, in particular enterprise and conceptual modelling, database methodology, and model-driven development of services and information systems. The holder of the lectureship is expected to take responsibility for courses in these areas at undergraduate and graduate levels, but other areas of teaching may also be included. The employee is expected to actively seek external research funding, and to follow the developments within the subject area and the developments in wider community that may be of importance for the employee’s duties at the university.

Eligibility: To be eligible for appointment as senior lecturer, the applicant must hold a Ph.D. or possess equivalent scholarly competence. Further on, the applicant must have demonstrated teaching expertise and have completed teacher training of relevance to operations at the University, or have acquired the equivalent knowledge. A general eligibility requirement is that the applicant must have the personal characteristics required to perform the duties of the post well.

It is required that the educational skill, the scientific proficiency, and the professional skills of the applicant are relevant to the subject content and the duties included in the employment.

The documented ability to teach in Swedish or English is a requirement. An applicant who is proficient in only one of these languages at the time of appointment is expected to be able to teach in the other language within two years.

Assessment: Equal importance will be given to teaching and research skills in the assessment of applicants.

Research expertise must have been demonstrated by the applicant’s independent, high-quality research contributions. The applicant’s contributions to the international and national scientific community must be assessed on the basis of such criteria as the quality and scope of scholarly publications. The international track record required must be assessed according to the nature and specific circumstances of the subject.

In assessing research expertise, research quality will be the primary consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, will also be afforded consideration. Particular emphasis will be placed on documented ability to publish at the highest level in the field of information systems (AIS Basket of Eight or similar). Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop research and education in information systems at the postgraduate level, the ability to acquire funding for research in competition, and the ability to collaborate and engage with the wider community through research. Documented experience of interacting with industry or industry-related work experience in the area of the duties of the position will award merit.

Pedagogical proficiency will be assessed as carefully as scientific proficiency. Pedagogical proficiency should be well documented so that the quality can be assessed. Particular emphasis will be placed on teaching experience of model-driven systems development, business process and enterprise modeling, and programming and database design based upon models. Practical experience of systems development projects based upon these principles awards merit. In assessing teaching expertise, teaching quality will be the primary consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, will be afforded consideration. Furthermore, consideration will be given to the capacity to plan, initiate, lead, and develop teaching and instruction, as well as the ability to connect research to teaching in respect to research in the subject at hand, subject didactics, as well as teaching and learning in higher education. Teaching expertise should also include the ability to collaborate and engage with the wider community through education.

Assessment, other skills: Administrative and management proficiency are important for this position and will be afforded great importance.

Administrative proficiency is demonstrated, for example, through the capacity to plan, organize, and prioritize work in an efficient and task-related manner as well as through the ability to assign and observe time limits. Proficiency includes overall operational planning and the capacity to manage resources in a way that reflects operational priorities as well as the ability to work in a structured manner based on an awareness of goals and quality.

Management proficiency is demonstrated through the capacity to lead operations and personnel, make decisions, take responsibility, and motivate others, providing them with what is required for the efficient achievement of common goals. The ability to coordinate the group and help create a sense of involvement, participation, and enjoyment in work and to deal with conflicts constitute further examples of demonstrated proficiency.

When the University appoints new teachers those applicants must be selected who, following a qualitative holistic assessment of their competence and expertise, are judged to have the best potential to carry out and develop the relevant duties and to help advance operations.

The Recruitment Committee may in this recruitment come to use interviews, trial-lectures and referrals. The applicant should therefore submit a list of referees with insight into the applicant’s professional skill as well as personal qualities that may be of relevance for the position, e.g., ability to cooperate, ability to lead and working methods.
