The Department of Immunology, Genetics and Pathology at Uppsala University has a broad research profile with strong research groups focused on cancer, autoimmune and genetic diseases. A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 450 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. The staff amounts to approximately 405 employees, out of which 100 are PhD-students, and there are in total more than 700 affiliated people. Duties
We seek a highly motivated candidate that will study specific proteins of importance for brain tumor relapse and treatment in Fredrik Swartling´s research lab at IGP. The candidate will preferentially study cancer genetics and gene therapies using lenti- and/or adeno-associated viruses for research and preclinical testing. The candidate will develop new in vivo models for brain tumors and study biopsies from both animals and humans. Working tasks include laboratory work, e.g. cell and organoid culturing, PCR methods, genetic cloning, immunostainings, cell sorting, advanced microscopy, treatment studies and in vivo models. The position also includes planning and performing of own research projects.

The candidate will be offered space in both office and lab at the Rudbeck Laboratory for his/hers employment. Finally, some of the work in the position involves administration and teaching at the department.

Requirements
PhD in biomedicine, biology, pharmacy, medicine or similar. The candidate must have a valid PhD degree before the work contract is approved. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. If you received your PhD earlier but special circumstances exist (absence due to sickness, parental leave, positions of trust within unions, et.c.), you are also eligible to apply. Documented experience of working with in vivo models, e.g. FELASA C certificate or similar.

Additional qualifications
Experience from neuroscience or brain tumor research. Good knowledge in English.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position of 2 years according to central collective agreement. (At least two years and at most three years). Scope of employment 100 %. Starting date 2022-05-01 or as agreed. Placement: Uppsala.
