Uppsala University, Department of Physics and Astronomy

The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 125 of whom are doctoral students. It offers a broad physics curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students, participation in nationally and internationally leading projects for researchers and opportunities for partnership with industry and various outreach activities. The division of High Energy Physics conducts research in theoretical and experimental particle physics as well as astroparticle physics.

The successful candidate will work in the Theoretical High Energy Physics (THEP) group, which at present consists of four senior faculty members, four postdocs and one PhD student. A postdoctoral scholar will be recruited concurrently with this position. The PhD student’s research project will be aligned with the THEP research interests: Electro-Weak (EW) and Higgs physics, theories Beyond the Standard Model (BSM), hard and soft processes in QCD and hadron theory, EW and strong phase transitions, connections to astrophysics and cosmology.

Collaborations within the department exist with the Theoretical Physics group as well as the Experimental HEP groups working in ATLAS and IceCube. For more information on the department and the THEP group, see https://physics.uu.se and https://physics.uu.se/research/high-energy-physics/research-groups/thep, respectively.
