Uppsala University, Department of Medical Sciences

Centre for Health Economic Research at Uppsala University is seeking to hire 1-2 high quality candidates for a Postdoctoral position in health economics with placement at the Department of Medical Sciences or the Department of Economics

Centre for Health Economic Research at Uppsala University is an interdisciplinary center aimed at research contributing to an efficient provision of health care resources and to improved health in the population. For example, developing methods for evaluating the effectiveness and cost-effectiveness of medical and health care interventions in routine care, and to increase the understanding for why the effectiveness in clinical practice may differ from the efficacy found in controlled experiments; developing reimbursement models and pricing systems for health care and pharmaceutical drugs to meet new challenges generated by novel types of medical innovations or demand for new types of evidence; understanding how the organization and resource constraints in the health care system affect the quality of health care provision. The center is a collaboration between the Disciplinary Domain for Medicine and Pharmacy and the Faculty of Social Sciences building on a cross-disciplinary perspective to combine different competences. The research capitalizes on complementary competences, a shared perspective on experimental and quasi-experimental research designs and a joint experience in using large registry data.

The Department of Medical Sciences is the largest department at the Medical Faculty with a staff of 250 members and more than 900 associated collaborators at the University hospital. The department is engaged in education and advanced research within several clinical specialties.

The Department of Economics is one of the largest departments within the Faculty of Social Sciences with approximately 100 employees from a dozen countries. The research conducted at the department is mainly focused on labor economics, macroeconomics, political economics, public economics and health economics.
