A fundamental idea at the department is to stimulate translational research and thereby closer interactions between medical research and health care. Research is presently conducted in the following areas: medical and clinical genetics, clinical immunology, pathology, neuro-oncology, vascular biology, radiation science and molecular tools. Department activities are also integrated with the units for Oncology, Clinical Genetics, Clinical Immunology, Clinical Pathology, and Hospital Physics at Akademiska sjukhuset, Uppsala. The department has teaching assignments in several education programmes, including Master Programmes, at the Faculty of Medicine, and in a number of educations at the Disciplinary Domain of Science and Technology. The department has a yearly turnover of around SEK 450 million, out of which more than half is made up of external funding. Description of the position
We are searching for a motivated and talented postdoc to the thrombo-inflammation group headed by prof Bo Nilsson.
The aim of the research project is to study and dissect the mechanisms behind activation of the cascade systems of the blood, ultimately leading to thrombo-inflammation, which occur upon contact between different therapeutic entities such as liposomes, nano-particles, cells or cell clusters and human blood, and to develop strategies to control such adverse reactions.
The experimental systems include, but are not restricted to, incubation of liposomes of different composition and with diverse surface coatings in human blood and quantification of the resulting activation reactions by different immunoassays e.g., ELISA, western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, and FACS.

Requirements
The applicant should have a PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Immunology or Biology with documented experience of immunoassays such as ELISA, western blot analysis, immunohistochemistry, and FACS. Knowledge in cell biology, in particular handling of leukocytes and platelets, is also required.
The position requires excellent skills in English, both as written and verbal communication. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability and long-term academic potential.
The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.

Other merits of interest
Skills in German, both as written and verbal communication, is an advantage since a major part of the project will be performed with collaborators in Germany.
