The advertised positions
The Centre for Gender Research advertises two PhD positions in Gender Studies. The PhD programme spans four years of full-time work, and is financed with a salaried position as doctoral student. The PhD candidate is expected to work full time in the programme, and contribute actively to the Centre’s and the programme’s activities. Additional work at the Centre for Gender Research, in administration and/or teaching, may be possible (max 20%), which then prolongs the duration of the PhD programme with the corresponding time. The proposed PhD topic of the PhD candidate must be situated within the field of Gender Studies.

Requirements
For basic eligibility for the position, you need to have completed a degree at advanced (Masters) level, based on course study of no less than 240 credits, and with no less than 60 of these credits at advanced level. Basic eligibility also applies for those who have acquired the equivalent of such an education in Sweden or abroad. A degree in Gender Studies at BA and/or MA level is an advantage that grants special eligibility, as is having acquired an equivalent education in other subjects with a Gender Studies orientation. The applicant should have documented language skills in spoken and written Swedish and English.

Rules governing PhD students are set out in the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5, §§ 1-7 and in Uppsala University's rules and guidelines.

Application
Your application should be written in English. It should contain your curriculum vitae, copies of degree certificate and grades, your Master’s thesis, and possible publications. It must also contain a personal letter (max. 2 pages) describing: (A) the reason(s) why you want to pursue a PhD programme in Gender Studies, and (B) any previous research experience. Furthermore, the application must include a brief project outline (max 5 pages, including bibliography) for the thesis project you wish to pursue as a PhD candidate. It is vital that the project plan reflects familiarity with the field of gender research, is based on research questions and perspectives of high relevance to Gender Studies, and indicates how the proposed project connects to existing research themes at the Centre for Gender Studies. Please include contact information for at least two references, preferably academic. Interviews and work samples will be part of the selection process.
