Teaching assistant

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer Courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 85 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph.D. programme. For more information, visit PCR .

For the department and for the project What are they fighting for? Conflict Issues and the Resolution of Civil War, we are now looking for 1 teaching assistant/’amanuens’, for a part time employment (20%), for 4 months. The project is described in detail at: What are They Fighting for?

Duties
Duties include teaching, administration or participation in research or artistic research. 

  • Gathering and analysis of quantitative data
  • Scrutinizing earlier collected quantitative data

Requirements
For employment as a teaching assistant, it is a requirement that you are admitted as a student at undergraduate or advanced level. To qualify, you should be an active student in the peace and conflict program at Uppsala University. You should be able to work independently, have excellent knowledge of quantitative methods and very good working knowledge and experience of gathering of large-N data, as well as excellent writing skills in English. 

Additional qualifications
Active master student within the Master's programme of peace and conflict studies at Uppsala University. Practical experience of working with gathering data in similar projects. Attention to detail and exactness, analytical and problem-solving skills, and good interpersonal abilities are of high importance. Knowledge in survey methods, statistics and empirical social research are merited skills. Experience as project assistant is also an advantage.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position according to the Higher Education Ordinance chapter 5 § 12. Scope of employment: 20 %. Starting date 14 February, or by agreement. Placement: Uppsala.
