Duties
We are looking for a postdoctoral fellow whose main duties (80%) are to conduct research within the project "Living as a survivor: a study of the political, social and economic integration of tsunami survivors", which is funded by the Swedish Research Council. The position also includes 20% teaching in political science. The research falls within the framework of societal security and the project description can be found here. The work includes research tasks in accordance with the project plan that has been granted research funding from the Swedish Research Council. The tasks include carrying out analyzes of register data, designing a survey, analyzing collected survey data and co-authoring scientific articles. The postdoctoral fellow will be part of a research group working on the project, which is led by researcher Lina M. Eriksson at Uppsala University. Also participating is Kåre Vernby at Stockholm University. The research group intends to have a good collaboration in the form of continuous communication, regular meetings and co-writing of research articles.

Requirements
PhD degree in political science, economics, or sociology, or a foreign degree that may be considered equivalent. The degree needs to be obtained by the time of the decision of employment. Those who have obtained a PhD degree three years prior to the application deadline are primarily considered for the employment. The starting point of the three-year frame period is the application deadline. Due to special circumstances, the degree may have been obtained earlier. The three-year period can be extended due to circumstances such as sick leave, parental leave, duties in labour unions, etc.  

Besides from a PhD, very good knowledge is required in quantitative methods, especially with focus on experiments/causal identification and software for statistical analysis such as SPSS, STATA and/or R. This knowledge must be able to be demonstrated through experience from education/doctoral dissertation/teaching or from a publication in a journal. More specifically, it must be possible to demonstrate method competence from at least one of the following areas: natural experiments, field experiments, survey experiments, matching, panel data analysis or analysis of register data. In other respects, personal qualities are valued very highly. We are looking for a person who is structured, committed, flexible, and has an ability to work both independently and with others. The project uses sensitive personal data and therefore places very high demands on ethics, whereby the applicant must be able to relate to good research practice regarding such data in all parts of the research project. Very good English in speech and writing is a requirement. Since the position includes 20% teaching, the postdoctoral fellow must also be able to teach political science and supervise degree projects/thesis work. Teaching experience is a requirement. 

Additional qualifications
It is desirable/meritorious, with a doctoral dissertation/publication in one of the above-mentioned areas of quantitative methods, with focus on experiments/causal identification. Above all, it is a merit to be able to demonstrate experience from working with analysis of register data, and specifically with Swedish microdata from Statistics Sweden (Micro Data Online Access), MONA.  

Application
The application should entail a doctoral dissertation, and only one manuscript/publication relevant to the call (if such is available in addition to the dissertation), a CV and a personal letter. The personal letter must briefly describe how the applicant’s previous methodological knowledge may be of use in the project, and why the dissertation and/or the attached manuscript/publication is relevant to the call (if such is available in addition to the dissertation). The letter must also contain a brief sketch of how the applicant intends to start and carry out the postdoctoral work: as in what order, and within what time frame, the postdoctoral fellow intends to carry out specific research tasks, with an emphasis on the choice of method of analysis and article writing of results. More precisely, the sketch should convey how the postdoctoral fellow intends for the research to be implemented in accordance with the project plan. The application must also briefly describe the applicant's pedagogical competence and teaching experience. About the employment
The employment is a temporary position for two years according to central collective agreement with possibility to be extended up to at most three years. The scope of the employment is 100%(80% research and 20% teaching). The earliest starting date is March 1, 2022, or by agreement. Placement: Uppsala.
