Uppsala University’s Department of Game Design is located at Campus Gotland, which has the best of two worlds: the broad range and high status of the full-scale University’s education and research and the unique study environment at a small-scale campus. Here, education in the areas of game development and game design is provided, and research focusing on basic issues in game design is under way. Here, education is conducted in the principal area of Game Design at both the bachelor and master level as well as research in game design.

Duties
The employment includes teaching which also includes course responsibility, development work and administrative work. The teaching is within free-standing courses on Transformative Game Design at a distance. The development work primarily refers to participation in the continued development of courses and graduate programmes in Transformative Game Design. Tasks include keeping informed about the developments within the analog role-playing games, subject area of game design -- live action role-playing games (larps), and tabletop. Specific areas of importance are educational (edu-larp) and tabletop games, as well as the design of applied analog role-playing games for specific purposes, e.g. personal development, therapy, social skills cultivation, group cohesion, community engagement, activism, etc. Tasks also include keeping informed about developments game design in general plus actively contributing to the development of both the department and the university.

For active participation in the department's work, physical presence at the workplace is required for key meetings as determined by the department head. Virtual teaching is permitted for the online free-standing courses and programme development work.

Qualifications required
The position requires at least a bachelor's degree and a subject specialization in game design, or documented knowledge of game design and/or experience of game development plus higher education pedagogical training of at least ten weeks or equivalent knowledge, demonstrated pedagogical skills in game design, and the ability needed to complete the job well. If there are special reasons, the higher education pedagogical education can be completed during the first year of employment. The ability to teach in English is a requirement. Knowledge of Swedish and the Swedish educational system is highly valued, but not required.

Assessment criteria
Documented experience of teaching and administrative work in the game design/game development area. Experience running your own game design business and/or business in the game design industry. Specific expertise on analog role-playing games (larp and tabletop) and transformative game design, e.g. edu-larp, therapeutic role-playing games, larp for well-being. Accuracy, good ability to work together, experience of a project-oriented approach, and good ability to express oneself in speech and writing in English. Special emphasis will be placed on pedagogical skills, which means that a more pedagogically skilled applicant will take precedence over a more scientifically skilled applicant. Documented engagement in analog role-playing discourse and play communities is highly desirable.

About the employment
The employment is a temporary position, 12 months. Scope of employment 50 %. Starting date 15 February 2022 or as agreed. Placement: Visby.
