The criteria for promotion to Senior Lecturer can be found in the Appointment regulations for Uppsala University and the Faculty of Arts’ supplementary guidelines.

Job description
Research, teaching and examination within philosophical aesthetics. The proportion of teaching is prescribed at maximum 50% of working time. The appointment as Associate Lecturer is intended to offer opportunities for professional growth and preparation for promotion to Senior Lecturer status, for which the employment criteria are more comprehensive. The subjects taught relate for the most part to the literature of analytic philosophical aesthetics. Additional duties will include the building of working relations and connections with colleagues in both practical and theoretical philosophy and in other departments within the Faculty of Arts.

Eligibility
To be qualified for appointment as Associate Lecturer applicants must hold a PhD in in aesthetics or philosophy or have achieved equivalent scientific competence, and must meet the requirements for pedagogical skills.

It is required that the applicant’s pedagogical skills, scientific competence and professional skills are relevant to the subject content of the position and the tasks that are to be included in the position.

Primary consideration will be given to applicants who have been awarded a PhD or achieved the equivalent expertise within five years of the deadline for application for employment as an Associate Lecturer. Assessment
When selecting among eligible applicants, emphasis will be given on both scientific and pedagogical skills. The assessment of research and teaching expertise will primarily be made on the basis of quality. In keeping with the character and subject matter of the envisaged teaching duties, particular weight will be placed on a candidate’s experience and ability in employing the methods and questions of analytic philosophical aesthetics.

Research expertise
In assessing research expertise, quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of research, primarily in regard to depth and breadth, will also be given consideration.

Teaching expertise
Teaching expertise comprises educational and teaching qualifications and should be well documented so that the quality can be assessed. In assessing teaching expertise, teaching quality will be the prime consideration. The scope of teaching experience, in terms of both breadth and depth, will also be given consideration.

Administrative expertise and other skills

Furthermore, consideration will be given to the ability to interact with others both within academia and in the wider community.

In addition, particular weight will be placed on the applicant’s potential to contribute to the future development of the department’s work in both research and teaching.
