Uppsala universitet, Department of Physics and Astronomy

The research conducted at the Department of Physics and Astronomy encompasses a wide range of physics topics, distributed over ten divisions. The department is located in the Ångström laboratory and employs nearly 400 people, 125 of whom are doctoral students. It offers a broad physics curriculum to undergraduate and graduate students, participation in nationally and internationally leading projects for researchers, and opportunities for partnership with industry and various outreach activities.

The Division of Materials Theory is known to have a world-class research environment in solid state theory, including both numerical and analytical models. The research is focused on electronic structures, magnetism, topological phases of matter, correlated phenomena and green energy solutions.

Duties
The researcher will be part of a larger theoretical team focusing on research of magnetic materials and their dynamics. The research involves development and application of multiscale magnetization dynamics, and the magneto-mechanical coupling at the micromagnetic length scale. The studies involve dynamics of domain walls, skyrmions, and/or other topological excitations, and the influence of magneto-mechanical coupling. The studies require good analytical as well as numerical skills of a successful candidate.

Requirements
The applicant is expected to have a PhD degree in Physics or Applied Mathematics, with a good background in solid-state physics and theory in general. The applicant is expected to have expertise in programming and/or analytical tools connected to theory of magnetism and electronic structure theory.

Additional qualifications
Experience with micromagnetic simulations, applied to magnetic materials is a required merit.
