Uppsala University, Department of Materials Science and Engineering

The division of Solid State Physics (FTF) is part of the Department of Materials Science at the Ångström Laboratory. At the department, we work with both fundamental and applied research in energy and environmental science. Preferably, we investigate the physical and chemical properties of nanomaterials and new materials that can be used as thin films for catalysis, smart windows, solar cells, gas sensors, spin electronics and biomagnetic applications.

Work duties: Work within an ongoing research project that deals with the fabrication of nanoparticle-based sensor materials on IDE substrates with physical vapor deposition methods; in particular with the use of inert gas evaporation, or so-called advanced gas evaporation (AGD), as well as chemoresistive sensor measurements of volatile organic compounds (VOC) on IDE sensors. Functionalization of AGD manufactured IDE sensors with organic ligands. This work is part of an EU-funded project and participation in meetings and reporting in the project will be required.

Qualification requirements: Doctoral degree in nanoscience or engineering with a focus on nanosystems. Documented knowledge, competence and experience in the manufacture of nanomaterials with physical deposition technology, especially gas evaporation, and of experimental work with chemoresistive sensors and material characterization techniques such as electron microscopy, XRD and FTIR and electrical measurement technology.

We require many years of experience working with solid body sensors for VOC measurements, PVD techniques, especially evaporation techniques and chemoresistive sensor technology, as well as knowledge and experience of VOC gas phase sensor measurement and analysis.

We require very good oral and written proficiency in English.

Desirable / merited in other respects: Experience in multivariate data analysis methods.

Personal qualities, such as the ability to lead and run projects and at the same time be able to interact with other researchers are very important. You must be purposeful, structured and be able to work effectively both individually and in groups. Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.

The application must contain a CV, list of publications, copies of diplomas and other relevant documents. We are happy to see that you provide information about reference persons or attach a letter of recommendation.
