Uppsala University, Department of Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy at Uppsala University has an interdisciplinary environment at the center of the pharmaceutical arena. With frontline research, first-rate education and extensive collaborations we constitute an important driving force in the development of our academic field. In this inspiring environment our rich diversity of research groups, several of international prominence, develop and conduct work of great scientific importance. Among our core competences are in vitro ADME models, advanced in vivo methods, computational modelling and simulations, as well as patient and societal aspects, from optimizing the use of drugs in individuals to societal pharmaceutical policies. Together, we form a unique cluster of academic competences within pharmaceutical science, playing a key role in shaping the future of pharmacy in both Sweden and globally.

Our scientific focus areas in selection: Clinical Pharmacy, Drug Delivery, Molecular Pharmaceutics, Pharmaceutics and Nanotechnology, Pharmacodynamics, Pharmacoeconomics, Pharmacoepidemiology, Pharmacokinetics, Pharmacometrics, Pharmacotherapy, Social Pharmacy.

 More information: Pharmacy.

Duties/Project: Pharmacometric models describe the time course of disease and the effects of drugs on these time courses. The research group in Pharmacometrics is involved in methodological research concerning principles and approaches for the development and use of these types of models as well applied development and use of models in specific therapeutic areas to enhance the understanding of diseases and the effects of treatment in order to streamline the development of new drugs and improve therapy with existing medicine. Much of our research is done in international collaboration with universities and industry in Europe, USA, Africa, Asia and Australia. The research team is international, with  >12 nations and many areas of expertise (pharmaceutical sciences, engineering sciences, medicine, statistics and mathematics) are represented. For more information about our research: Pharmacometrics. We are looking for two researchers focusing on methodology (decision making using pharmacometric models and automation of  pharmacometric approaches through the use of AI, machine learning and/or other methods).

Requirements: Eligible to be employed as a researcher is a person who has completed a doctoral degree (PhD) in in pharmacokinetics / pharmacodynamics / pharmacometrics /statistics / AI / ML or a related field or has a foreign degree that is deemed to correspond to a doctoral degree in the specified field.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability and motivation to improve methods within pharmacometrics. The applicant must be able to express themselves well, both orally and in writing, in English.

Special merits: Pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic modeling and simulation. Experience in decision making with pharmacometric models. Experience within AI / machine learning. Interest in, and skill in, scientific writing is highly desirable, as is experience of collaborating in international networks.

Application: The application should include:

A motivation letter with a brief description of the candidate and research interests as well as experiences in relation to the requirements and qualifications listed above, and the topics pharmacometrics, pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, model based decision making, AI and machine learning. the candidate’s CV copies of diplomas and certificates two recommendation letters (where one preferably would be from a supervisor of the Master thesis) and thesis, as well as other relevant documents that the applicant wish to refer to, such as proficiency in English.
