Uppsala University, Department of Peace and Conflict Research

The Department of Peace and Conflict Research was established in 1971 to conduct peace research and offer courses in peace and conflict studies. Currently approx. 85 persons are employed at the Department and at present some 300-400 students are enrolled every academic year. Courses offered include undergraduate and post-graduate courses, as well as a Ph. D. programme. For more information, visit www.pcr.uu.se

The department now seeks to hire a researcher to work within a project commissioned by the Swedish Red Cross, with project leader Lisa Hultman.

Work description: The goal of the project is to write a report analyzing the consequences of sanctions for civilians and humanitarian work in the targeted countries. Together with the project leader, the recruited researcher will conduct independent research related to the project theme and write the report.  The position may include up to 20% teaching at the undergraduate- and/or graduate-levels.


Qualifications and required skills:
The following are demands

  • At the time of application, the successful candidate should have a PhD in Peace and Conflict Studies or other, related field
  • Documented experience working with case studies and qualitative analysis
  • Documented experience of writing policy reports
  • Good ability to work cooperatively
  • Advanced proficiency in written English.

Additional qualifications/Qualification desired: Academic publications in peace and conflict research. Familiarity with theories relevant for analyzing the situation of civilians in armed conflict and/or repressive states.
