Uppsala University, Department of Earth Sciences

The Department of Earth Sciences of Uppsala University is one of the most complete of such academic departments in Europe, with about 250 employees. Our research focuses on subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere, on scales from submicroscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and oceans, from the formation of the Earth until today. We investigate the development of life and the Earth over billions of years, and study the connections between the atmosphere and oceans with regards to climate change and sustainable development. The Centre for Environment and Development Studies, CEMUS, has since the start 1992 carried out student-led education within the broad and interdisciplinary environmental and sustainability area. Please visit: CEMUS for more information about our educational model and our courses.

Duties: As a course assistant you work with the planning, administration, delivery and reporting of a university course. The work is based on the course syllabus and is carried out together with a colleague and in close collaboration with guest lecturers, a course work group (consisting of experienced university teachers, researchers and professors), and the educational coordinators at CEMUS. The work includes contacts with guest lecturers and students, course planning, literature, preparation of seminars, workshops and course administration. Part of the work is to creatively build on experiences from previous course offerings and pass on one’s own experiences to future course coordinators. As a course assistant, you have a specific responsibility to support colleagues with less experience of working with student-led courses.

The positions are for work with one of the courses that are listed at: CEMUS spring 2022. Please specify in your application which courses you are interested in working with.

Requirements:

  • Recent and documented experience of working with student-led education in multidisciplinary environments.
  • Good computer skills and good spoken and written English language skills are necessary. For courses in Swedish (marked with *), good language skills in Swedish, in speech and writing are necessary.
  • Documented ability to independently manage and complete tasks within given time frames, even during temporary work peaks.
  • 120 credits.
  • Individual suitability to successfully carry out the work tasks will be given strong consideration.

Additional qualifications: Ongoing university/college (higher education) or finished studies, preferably in sustainable development. Documented ability to collaborate with people from different backgrounds.
