The Department of Earth Sciences of Uppsala University focuses on subjects that range from the Earth’s core to the atmosphere, on scales from submicroscopic structures in minerals to the formation of mountains and oceans, and from basic research on natural resources to research on how humans manage these resources in a sustainable way. The Baltic University Programme is an international university programme in the Baltic Sea Region, focusing on education and research for sustainable development. Read more at The Baltic University Programme. The programme is coordinated by a secretariat at Uppsala University, at the Department of Earth Sciences. To the secretariat, we are now looking for a project assistant.

Duties: Mainly assist the project coordinators, director and communications officer in their work. Tasks will include:

  • Assist in organizing meetings, seminars and conferences together with partners in the region.
  • Maintain contacts with the programme’s participating universities and national centres around the region.
  • Assist in different administrative tasks at the secretariat, for example documentation, taking notes, etc.
  • Assist in the communications tasks, for example social media, website, newsletters, etc.

Requirements: We are searching for a person with a university degree that the employer deems relevant in relation to the work tasks. Good English skills, both in speaking and writing, is a requirement. We place great importance on personal characteristics. As a person you are proactive, communicative, responsible and flexible. You have a good organizational and collaboration ability, a good sense of service, are social and outgoing and are easy to build trust in dialogue with others. You need to have experience in administrative/project work, preferably from previous work in an international organization.

Additional qualifications: We would like you to have:

  • An interest in questions related to sustainability, preferably from your studying these topics.
  • Good knowledge about the Baltic Sea Region.
  • Previous experience of working within an academic environment, preferably from international cooperation.
  • Knowledge in Swedish, both written and in speech.
  • Knowledge in another Baltic Sea region language, both written and in speech.

Salary: Individual salary

Starting date: 16-08-2021 or as otherwise agreed.

Type of employment: Temporary position ending 31-12-2021.

Scope of employment: 50 %.
