The Department of Medical Cell Biology at Uppsala University is a strong and international research environment. The department has about 100 employees, of which about 25 are doctoral students, 20 postdoctoral fellows, and 30 researchers, teachers and professors.


You will work within U-PRINT (https://www.mcb.uu.se/u-print/), which is Uppsala University's 3D printing facility in medicine and pharmacy, and also within VINNOVA's new competence center Additive Manufacturing for the Life Sciences (https://www.uu.se/en/research/am4life/).

Duties: To assist in the development of new innovations and tools for use in the life sciences and especially in the field of medicine and pharmacy with the help of advanced 3D printing. Development of new methods for analysis of experimental models and for molecular analysis. Development of cell biological applications using 3D bioprinting. The work is mainly about developing new high-quality research methods and tools using 3D printing together with researchers and innovators.

Participation in teaching in postgraduate education and undergraduate education related to 3D printing as well as some supervision of students may be included in the tasks (however to a maximum of 20% of full time), as well as being involved in writing grant applications. The duties also include to inform about the activities at U-PRINT and at the Competence Centre, and contributing to the creation of a national network for stakeholders in the subject area. Responsibility for the operation and maintenance of certain equipment, primarily for additive manufacturing, as well as responsibility for internal and external research projects including reporting.

Requirements: A master's degree in biotechnology, materials science, chemical engineering, technical physics or equivalent. The applicant must have practical experience in additive manufacturing and good knowledge in CAD. Very good ability to communicate in English in speech and writing is required. Great emphasis will be placed on the ability to carry out and also to develop the duties and the ability to contribute to a positive development of U-PRINT and the Competence Centre. We are looking for a candidate that is eager to take responsibility, can run several activities in parallel, is innovative, and has a passion for additive manufacturing. Personal qualities, the ability to work independently, and at the same time to be able to interact with researchers both nationally and internationally is very important.

Additional qualifications: Experience of method development for applications within the life sciences with the help of 3D printing is a merit. Experience of teaching within the field of 3D printing is a merit.
